Zoe Parker takes on a different version and side of the fae in her debut novel, Elusion. She explores the "Feyrie", a designation of creatures that is placed opposite "Light Elves". This will also be a combined review for Elusion and Ascension because I read one right after the other.). Overall thoughts: Damn Zoe Parker knows how to write!!! The Facets of Feyrie series is completely new and totally refreshing. The dialogue is intriguing and funny and you are never too sure where she will take the story next. Ascension picks up where Elusion left off with Iza finally arriving at her destination. Iza does accept, albeit grudingly, her destiny and Ascends. This book has a completely different feel from Elusion, slower pace and more in-depth character world building. Zoe Parker delivered fully fleshed characters and an intriguing world of magic.
Elusion (Facets of Feyrie #1) by Zoe Parker Blurb from Goodreads: The First Prophecy Seed of Death and Dragon’s womb, suffering her fated tomb. Zoe Parker takes on a different version and side of the fae in her debut novel, Elusion. She explores the "Feyrie", a designation of creatures that is placed opposite "Light Elves". This appears to correspond with the more well-known designations of Winter Court and Summer Court (respectively) in classic Fae folklore, but with new twists. Elusion features Iza and Phobe, who are both imprisoned and tortured by a certain type of faerie called the Schoth (at least I think that's what's going on.) We really don't know why either of them are there and the world building crosses from "less is more" territory into the "okay but actually what the heck is going on?".
